Ethylene prices witness a drop in Northeast Asia

Ethylene prices decreased in Northeast Asia while remaining stable in Southeast Asia on Thursday.

On Thursday, CFR North East Asia ethylene prices were assessed at the USD 855-865/mt levels, a decline of USD (-15/mt) from Wednesday. An industry source in Asia informed a Polymerupdate team member, “Prices fell on account of a bearish regional purchase pulse.”

Meanwhile, CFR South East Asia ethylene prices on Thursday were assessed at the USD 960-970/mt levels, day on day stable.

In plant news, Sinopec Beijing Yanshan Petrochemical has shut its No.1 High density polyethylene (HDPE) unit for maintenance on September 9, 2024. Further details on the duration of the shutdown could not be ascertained. Located in Beijing, China, the No.1 HDPE unit has a production capacity of 110,000 mt/year.
